Bags
“Packing my life up into bags
while listening to bags by clairo
Squeezing every sentiment into a nylon pouch, sitting atop, and yanking the zipper shut.
When I watch the plane take off from the landing strip I’ll probably be listening to California by Joni Mitchell
to remind myself of why I’m going home and why I’m staying there.
Is this what it feels like to be a child of divorce?
Heart split into two, living in two different places.
This city holds half of my heart, but its also what broke it.
I guess its only fitting I’m leaving here with more baggage then I came with.”
This is poem I wrote as I was leaving college in Boston to return to Los Angeles, filled with sadness over having to say goodbye to the friends and the city I came to love, but also ready to be surrounded by family to fully heal from my recent traumas. I’m so excited to return back Boston shortly, at the end of this August!
